Un utile integrazione al reddito familiare era dato anche dai prodotti delle piccole industrie domestiche. 
Esse servivano innanzitutto a soddisfare le necessità familiari senza ricorrere a merci provenienti dall'esterno, ma potevano divenire anche una forma lucrosa d'impiego dei lunghi tempi di inattività dovuti ai rigori invernali. Così alcuni ambienti della casa si trasformavano in laboratori di filatura e tessitura, di falegname e di intagliatore, di cestaio e via così in mille piccole attività. La stua era il luogo dei lavori femminili, in primo luogo la filatura della lana e del lino prodotto nei campi attorno al paese; infatti ogni famiglia aveva un campo a lino. In molte case vi era infatti un telaio ospitato spesso in una camera con cui si tessevano i tessuti di mezzalana che servivano per gli abiti da lavoro. Vita dura una volta, nulla andava sprecato! Lungo i sentieri ci si inerpica verso le cime e le terre di confine. Man mano che sali e le rocce si fanno più aspre, i resti delle fortificazioni affiorano e la mente corre a quei soldati, giovani pieni di coraggio e al tempo stesso di paura, ti sembra di sentire i loro passi, le loro sommesse voci, il loro ansimare per la fatica. All’improvviso alzi lo sguardo e dalla nebbia mattutina ti sembra di scorgere la sagoma di uno di quei giovani soldati che avanza, zaino in spalla, verso la cima più alta. La suggestione è forte, in un attimo l’immagine svanisce e ti ritrovi solo lungo il sentiero con la percezione di essere in un luogo ricco di storia, di dolore, di ritorni ma anche di morte.
