Title A name given to the resource Porfido Subject The topic of the resource Foto di un porfido rosso Description An account of the resource Il porfido è una roccia magmatica effusiva (il magma fuoriesce da un vulcano e si raffredda velocemente in superficie), ma particolare, perché presenta grandi cristalli in una pasta di fondo molto fine o vetrosa. Infatti la lava che forma i porfidi fuoriesce dalla crosta terrestre lungo fratture molto estese cosicché il magma ha più tempo per raffreddarsi e quindi alcuni minerali possono crescere in cristalli, visibili anche ad occhio nudo. Questa pietra non è frequente del letto del Piave a Belluno, poiché si trova nel basamento cristallino dolomitico.
