LIVING AT AN ANGLE The sloping terrain has influenced the way that villages have developed over the centuries, springing up along the course of rivers or halfway up a mountain in places exposed to the sun. But the internal layout of the houses and barns has also been adapted to the sloping terrain, as have the methods used to build these wooden homes. One such method, the "blockbau" system, even allows you to dismantle your home and move it elsewhere if, for example, there is the threat of a landslide. Finally, life on the slopes has also given rise to new types of building, such as the "malghe" and the first temporary mountain huts, used during the summer period of grazing at high altitude.
